Dual study programme "Applied Nursing Science" /
The degree programme combines vocational training in nursing with a Bachelor's degree. In nine semesters, you will acquire both a state vocational qualification and an internationally recognised university degree.
If you have already completed vocational training in the field of nursing, you can even shorten the programme!
Your career prospects with the dual qualification /
- After graduating, all areas of the healthcare sector in Germany and abroad will be open to you. These include hospitals, outpatient care services, geriatric care facilities and counselling centres.
- Your dual qualification and internationally recognised university degree will open up many exciting fields of work for you: You are qualified to take on responsibility in daily patient care. You will also be able to analyse and design complex processes in everyday nursing care. Your knowledge and skills will help you to recognise the appropriate care and treatment.
The degree programme provides nursing staff with sound theoretical and practical skills and enables them to independently care for and support people of all ages (paediatrics, adult care, geriatrics) in different life situations and in different care contexts.
In addition to clinical nursing expertise, you will acquire knowledge and skills for the professional information, counselling and guidance of people with care needs, their relatives and caregivers or assistants.
The standard period of study is 9 semesters due to the training-integrated phase. Theory and practice merge seamlessly:
- In the first part of the programme (1st - 6th semester), you will complete vocational training as a nursing specialist at the ZfP Reichenau in parallel to your studies at the university.
- The second part of the programme (7th - 9th semester) is completed in block phases exclusively at the university.
Have you already completed nursing training?
If you have completed a 3-year training programme in nursing (e.g. nursing specialist, healthcare and nursing assistant, nurse, geriatric nurse), you have the opportunity to obtain your Bachelor's degree in Applied Nursing Science after just five semesters.
To be admitted to the dual study programme, you need a higher education entrance qualification, a subject-restricted higher education entrance qualification or a higher education entrance qualification for particularly qualified professionals in accordance with §58 of the Baden-Württemberg State Higher Education Act.
Training allowance & recognition /
During your studies and parallel training, we will pay your tuition fees and you will receive a monthly salary, as is customary during your nursing training. If you have already completed your training and are studying, your pay will be based on the TV-L pay scale.
After successfully completing the programme, you will receive the academic degree "Bachelor of Arts (B.A.)" with 210 credit points (ECTS).
Start of studies /
The course starts every year on 1 October:
With completed training in the field of nursing at the Catholic University of Applied Sciences Freiburg. Without prior, relevant vocational training at the DHBW Karlsruhe.
Accommodation /
During your practical phases at ZfP Reichenau, you can move into a room in our on-site dormitory if required.
